Food & Siestas
In the morning, the Romans have breakfast. Breakfast had the least amount of food during the day. The poor would not have as much food, but the rich got a lot more. They had food like wine, bread, cheese, olives, meat, fruit, fish, and they would have honey on their bead too!! Then the Romans would have lunch, later in the day. Lunch is the 2nd biggest meal of the day. Some foods that they would eat are considered strange to us, and they were mice and peacock tongues. Also, they would eat meat, bread, salad, fruit, nuts, cheese, and fish, and would eat food from previous siestas. After lunch, the Romans would have a siesta. A siesta is a 1-3 hour resting time, when they usually nap. The kids in school would stop school and would take a siesta, and grown-ups would stop work too. Dinner is the biggest meal of the day. They would eat cabbage, pork, oysters, onions, garlic, honey, and wine. They ate food with their hands. For dessert, they would eat pastries covered in honey. Dinner started at 3:00 in the afternoon. The woman and the slaves would prepare the food.
